Getting started with Nim
Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Nim. Remove the last counter on the board to win. Use the example below to understand a decision. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.
Practice beyond the first move
Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.
The challenge in front of you
Remove the last counter on the board to win. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.
How a round unfolds
- Player 1 chooses a pile.
- Remove at least one counter, and up to all counters, from that pile.
- The next player chooses a pile and an amount.
- Continue until no counters remain.
Choosing and moving on screen
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.
A useful example
If only one counter remains in one heap, taking it wins under the normal-play rule used here. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Consider the next action carefully.
Avoid this misunderstanding
Only one pile may be changed per turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
