Play Forty Thieves Solitaire with the rules at hand

Forty Thieves Solitaire gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Look at what changes after your first action. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

One thing to notice as you play

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

Aim for this result

Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

The steps to play

  1. Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

The controls to know

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.

Learn from a sample situation

A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Notice this detail

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
